The Democratic nominee inspired (in part) the Italian Vogue Black Issue, while Donatella Versace was inspired by a "Barack-type" man for her spring '09 menswear collection, and here he is on the cover of Ebony's August issue as one of the "25 coolest brothers of all time." For the collector's edition, there are eight different covers, featuring either Obama, Jay-Z, Prince, Samuel L. Jackson, Denzel Washington, Marvin Gaye, Muhammad Ali, or Billy Dee Williams, which of course can be purchased online.

WWD Executive Editor Bridget Foley was at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle at 6:45am when she spotted Marc Jacobs at a new LVMH airport shop. Per WWD B, Jacobs was eyeing his Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag selection before boarding an Air France flight to NYC, and then to the Hamptons to hang with friends for the holiday. What did the fashion king buy? Of course, nothing from his own brand, but he did make some quick picks at Hermès "six leather bookmarks, each decorated with a different animal." He told Foley: “There will be six of us [for the weekend]...I figure there’ll be a lot of reading by the pool, so everybody will get one.” What, no gum? [WWD B]
If you've been to Show Pony in Echo Park, you've seen owner Kime Buzzelli's bittersweet paintings which dot the walls—often young things you envision living in the hills of Echo Park, going to rock shows, and finding love in the wrong places. We find out via Buzzelli's blog, The Moldy Doily, that her artwork will be featured in Flaunt mag, set to hit newsstands this month, and we had to share. Per the post: "
"I've been working the past month on some artwork for the new issue of FLAUNT magazine. I am elated of course, because they are known for having the coolest covers. The issue features young stars Jim Sturgess (21 and Across the Universe) and Anne Hathaway (Devil Wears Prada). The best part is that the cover content was supposed to reflect 'Young Love, Heartache- heartbreak- teen angst' my specialty. Here's some sneak peek looks at some of the images..."

The grocery chain's Manhattan Beach opening yesterday marked its largest debut yet with close to 2,600 customers. And, yes, as we saw, there were a ton of shoppers waiting to bustle in. Per PR Newswire, shoppers were buying a lot o' meat: "Fresh & Easy's 'grill pack' sold particularly well, in only 12 hours customers purchased nearly 1,400 units. The 'grill pack' is almost five pounds and includes an assortment of high quality beef patties, mild pork sausages and lightly chili-seasoned chicken—it sells for only $4.99 through July 8th." Oh, so very American. [PR Newswire]
Author Jennifer Brandt Taylor offers up her version of Los Angeles in her new book Vintage LA, an insider’s guide to all places old glamour here in The City of Angels. Amidst pages of restaurant reviews and shopping hotspots, interviews with famous Angelenos like journalist Dominick Dunne and radio personality Rodney Bingenheimer, you’ll find hundreds of pics of Hollywood landmarks snapped by photographer Janeen Lund.
Last week at Fred Segal on Melrose, Taylor hosted a book-signing and encouraged guests to wear their best old glamy outfits, offering prizes for the best dressed. Even the Segal staff adorned their cutest vintage while they served champagne. A few guests we spoke to admitted that their get-ups were actually only vintage inspired, but wanted to play along for the event. Photos of our faves above.

Women still reminisce about Rebecca Danenberg's epynomous label from the '90s, which ended in bankruptcy in 2000. She went on to Seven for all Mankind, and then we lost sight of her. Then she showed up at the Design Suites of Los Angeles Fashion Week in 2005, launching a label Three Girls Running. We lost her again. WWD reports that "another company owned the rights to the Three Girls name. That, combined with operational difficulties, forced the project to fold after two seasons."
But Danenberg is back again with a premium denim label Work Custom Shop, backed by a silent partner. If the name sounds familiar, it's because it has LA roots:
